The new Athens International airport, named after one of the greatest Greek statesmen of the 20th century and prime minister of Greece during the Balkan wars- Eleftherios Venizelos, is located about 27 kilometers (17 miles) from downtown Athens. The airport is accessible by a newly constructed 6 lane limited access highway, which has a capacity of up to 5,400 cars an hour in each direction.
There are six Athens city bus routes that service the airport:
The E94 connects the Ethniki Amyna metro station with the airport. Passengers can transfer between the metro line and the E94 at this location.
The E95 Syntagma Square–Airport Express has its terminus in the city’s center, at Syntagma Square, opposite the Parliament building in downtown Athens. Syntagma Square is approximately 1 km east of Omonia Square. The E95 makes limited stops along its route.
The E96 Piraeus–Airport Express runs between the port of Piraeus and the Athens airport. The E96 begins and ends its route at the west end of the ferryboat quay in Piraeus, on Karaiskaki Square, across from the train station. It makes stops in the center of Piraeus (Karaiskaki Square), at the Peace and Friendship Stadium in Neo Faliro, and then travels down Poseidonos Avenue (the coastal road), with several stops in Kalamaki, in Glyfada, in Voula and Vari, before heading out to Spata and arriving at the airport. Allow about 90 minutes for this trip.
The cost of the express buses is €2.90 euros and the transfer on the ticket is good for 24 hours from the time of validation on all forms of public transport (bus, metro, trolley). Tickets for the airport buses can be purchased at terminals, transport kiosks and from the driver.
Buses leave at approximately 20 minute intervals and run 24 hours a day. Full bus information can be obtained by calling the Greek National Tourism Office (EOT) at 210 353 0445 and 210 354 5101.
You can also use the metro that transfer you directly from the airport to Syntagma Square or the rail way that connects with line 2 of the metro and leads you to Omonoia Square.
Private motor-coach buses embark and disembark their passengers at the designated areas of the airport.
Taxis load and unload passengers in front of the appropriate areas of the airport. The taxi fare to the airport is not a flat fee but such a fee structure may be enforced in the near future. Thus far, expect to pay approximately €15-20 euros to the Athens area (depending upon your destination, time of day and traffic).
Many taxi drivers will try to convince the passenger that the fare/tariff is twice what is shown on the meter, however this is not the case. The fare to the airport is single not double.
The airport is easily accessible by private/personal car by using the new highway (Attiki Odos). The airport currently has about 4,800 parking spaces for both short and long-term parking, situated in front of the main terminal. In the short-term parking lot there is no charge for the first 20 minutes; after that, the cost for less than 4 hours is €2.90 per hour and €2 per hour for every hour after the 4th hour. Long-term parking is €9.98 per day.

The airport hosts several ATMs as well as branches of several of the larger commercial banks, including Alpha Bank and Commercial Bank, National Bank of Greece, etc which offer a wide range of financial services. Nevertheless, to change money, you may be better off at one of the exchange bureaus in Omonia Square or in Syntagma Square, where the abundance of outlets usually translates into more competitive rates.
Airline offices located at the airport can be reached by phone at 210 353 1000. For information regarding flight schedules and information please call 210 353 0000.
