In Delphi
The museum of Delphi is a definite must-see after a visit to the archeological site. It houses the Charioteer, one of the most famous bronze ancient statues, which was dedicated to the oracle by the leader of the Greek colony of Gela, in Sicily, after he won the chariot race in the Pythic Games, in Delphi, in the middle of the 5th century BC. Other notable exhibits include ivory heads of Apollo and Athena, a life-sized silver-and-ivory bull, and various tripods and figurines, all gifts to the oracle by prophecy-seeking individuals and cities. The museum is open every day from 7.30 am to 7 pm. Admission is €6 or €9 for both the museum and the site. |
